Richards-Phillip-C-2017.pngPHILADELPHIA—Phil Richards, CLU®, RHU®, Executive Chairman and Founder at North Star Resource Group, was recognized as a Fox School of Business Centennial Honoree at the organization’s Centennial Honorees Reception on Thursday, April 25, 2019. Richards was honored at the reception along with 99 other entrepreneurs and visionaries who have shaped Fox School of Business and the business world.

“I am honored to be recognized among these other influential individuals,” says Richards. “Temple University and Fox School of Business changed my life, and I am happy to invest in the school’s future as well as the future of its students.”

Richards received his Bachelor of Science in pre-law and economics from Fox Business School at Temple University in 1962, where he served as Student Body President and received the Sword Award as outstanding senior classman. A three-year letter winner, Richards also served as team captain of the school’s wrestling team during his senior year.

In his post-collegiate career, Richards bought a five-agent financial services firm that he grew into North Star Resource group with 130,000 clients, 320 advisors and team members and $7 billion in assets under administration in 2019.**

Richards has continued to invest in Temple University and Fox School of Business in the Chairman’s Circle and as a trustee since 2009. He was inducted into the Temple Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018 and was the commencement speaker for Temple’s 2016 graduating class, when he was also awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Richards is also responsible for a 2015 financial donation to bring wrestling back to Temple and for the creation of the Alzheimer’s Center at Temple and the establishment of the Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation Chair for Alzheimer’s Research.

“I’ve spent my career looking for great people right off college campuses,” Richards says. “We take youngsters right out of business school and help them grow. Because of this commitment to professional growth, some of them have stayed with us for 40 years.”

With a career in the financial services profession dating back to 1962, Richards is an international speaker, author and philanthropist. After acquiring North Star Resource Group in Minneapolis in 1969, Richards guided the firm as CEO for 46 years before transitioning into his current role as Executive Chairman and Founder in January 2016. He additionally serves as the chair of the Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation.
