Temi Carda selected as a WaveMaker Award for Community Impact honoree

MINNEAPOLIS — September 1, 2022 — Temi Carda, financial advisor at North Star Resource Group, was named an honoree for the 2022 WaveMaker Award for Community Impact by TeamWomen. The award will be presented as part of TeamWomenMN’s 7th annual WaveMaker Awards Celebration on October 6th, 2022.

TeamWomen is a female-led organization that coaches women to reach their full potential, and the WaveMaker awards recognize individuals in their field who are respected by their employers and/or peers. They demonstrate outstanding leadership and serve to help the Minnesota business community, while helping women achieve their own goals.

“My community plays such a large role in who I am and is the core of my financial practice,” says Carda, “To be recognized for Community Impact by a Minnesota-based organization like TeamWomen is truly an honor. I am so thankful I have an opportunity to create an environment where those around me are empowered to share their goals, question their concerns and advocate for themselves.”

Over the past year, Temi Carda has established an independent financial advising practice.  In an industry where 80% to 85% of financial advisors are men (according to Barron’s, 2019) and the average age is over 55 (J.D. Power, 2019), Temi has created waves for female clients, colleagues and students.

Robert Evans, North Star’s advisor development manager and Temi’s mentor, stated, “Temi acknowledges the power she has to excel in a male-dominated industry. She is always looking for ways to network with women and connect with the community.”

Carda has participated as an e-mentor with BestPrep, a Minnesota-based nonprofit focused on improving financial literacy for students. She is also a member of Her Next Play, a nonprofit organization that strives to develop the next generation of women leaders through sports. Within Her Next Play, Carda has used her leadership and guidance in a variety of ways. She volunteered at one of their basketball camps, using her skills as a former collegiate athlete to guide young females through the camp and recently participated in a ‘financial power lab,’ where she was invited to share financial strategies with attendees that helped to build their financial power through guidance and advocacy.

Evans added, “Temi isn’t afraid to insert herself into conversations and situations where her voice may be needed. She continues to seek opportunities to learn and develop her skills.”
