North Star recognized as a 2025 Best Workplace by Inc. Magazine

NEW YORK—June 17, 2025—North Star Resource Group was announced today on the 2025 Best Workplaces list by Inc. Magazine.

This recognition highlights organizations with exemplary company cultures, shown through initiatives and practices that foster employee growth and advancement while thriving in the face of adversity. Data was gathered through a survey administered to North Star advisors and team members by Quantum Workplaces earlier in 2025, which asked questions regarding employee engagement and workplace satisfaction.

“We at North Star are incredibly humbled to receive this prestigious recognition from Inc. Magazine,” stated North Star CEO Ed Deutschlander, CLU®, CLF®. “It really speaks to the commitment our firm has to providing a welcoming, healthy, and positive work culture, and a supportive environment for advisors and team members to thrive.”

North Star emphasizes the connections between its advisors and team members. From monthly team member meetings and bi-annual firm-wide events to internal newsletters that celebrate important news, dates and events, the firm’s advisors and team members are encouraged to share their knowledge, recognize each other’s hard work and motivate each other to succeed. The firm also employs a “kudos” culture, whereby advisors and team members are recognized every month for work going above and beyond, and they can pay their kudos forward to another member of the firm.

Since 2004, North Star has contributed over $7.4 million to worthy charities through its Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation, which was named after former North Star President Scott Richards, who lost a long and valiant battle with myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia in 2008. Causes these funds have gone toward include breast cancer, ataxia, cystic fibrosis, Alzheimer’s and BestPrep. BestPrep is a Minnesota-based nonprofit that provides financial literacy and career readiness skills to children across the Twin Cities metro area, and North Star advisors and team members have long served as career mentors, classroom speakers and members of leadership within BestPrep.

“Our commitment to culture takes multiple forms, including empowering and providing our members with the resources to give back to others,” added Deutschlander. “This has long been central to the North Star purpose, and has benefited causes far and wide since 2004.”

The firm also hosts the annual Bikes for Kids event, a holiday party for children of military families that provides them with a bike and helmet to take home, and the North Star Charitable Golf event (which raises funds to support the Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation). It also works with Stop Alzheimer’s Now, a nonprofit formed in 2013 by North Star Senior Vice President, Shaun McDuffee, AEP, CLU®, ChFC®, CEPA, and his wife, to provide critical funding for Alzheimer’s research efforts nationwide. Since its founding, Stop Alzheimer’s Now has raised over $900,000 to support this cause.

Further enhancing its commitment to empowering its members to give back to others, the firm offers eight hours of volunteer time off (VTO) to every full-time advisor and team member every year. Using VTO hours, North Star members can take time to volunteer for an approved 501(c)(3) organization of their choice during the workday. The firm also regularly hosts dress-up days, where advisors and team members can enjoy a relaxed, fun dress code in exchange for a small donation to a charity chosen by the firm’s Event Planning Committee, or EPC. Past beneficiaries include the National Ataxia Foundation, the Loeyz-Dietz Foundation and the MD Anderson Center for Myelofibrosis.
