Michael Foley named finalist in the ThinkAdvisor Luminaries Awards as a Next-Gen Rising Star

Scottsdale, Ariz. — September 4, 2024 – Michael Foley, CFP®, CSLP®, CKA®, Financial Advisor and Medical Division President at North Star Resource Group, has been named a finalist for the ThinkAdvisor Luminaries Award in the Next-Gen Rising Star category.
This recognition honors individuals with less than 10 years of industry experience who have demonstrated exceptional innovation and produced outstanding results, positioning them as emerging leaders in the financial services sector.
“I am truly honored to be named a finalist alongside such an impressive group of advisors,” Foley stated. “I’m so grateful to North Star and our team for giving me the capacity and reach to continue serving our healthcare workers and their families.”
Since joining North Star Resource Group in 2016, Foley has established himself as a visionary in financial literacy and student loan planning for medical professionals. In 2023, Foley launched a network of 14 Certified Student Loan Professionals (CSLPs) within North Star, streamlining student loan planning for medical professionals and leading the way in innovative, client-centered financial services.
Over the past 18 months, his team secured $2.96 million in student loan forgiveness for clients, contributing to the CSLP network’s total of $23 million in loan forgiveness. His innovative cross-selling strategies have ensured that 80% of his clients engage in additional financial services, such as insurance and investment planning.
“Michael has been an outstanding contributor to North Star since joining the firm immediately after graduating from Duke University, where his leadership shined through while serving as a captain of Duke’s track and field team,” stated Ed Deutschlander, CLU, CLF®, CEO of North Star. “The best part about watching Michael Foley’s success is the great impact he’s making on his clients’ financial lives, and his impact on those in the medical profession, serving them so well.”
Through his work, Foley continues to expand financial literacy for medical professionals. In the last three years, Foley has authored articles for Medical Economics, spoken at over 15 universities and developed a financial wellness series for the OBGYN community. His passion for education and mentoring is reflected in his leadership of North Star’s CSLP network.
“Having grown up with two physician parents, I’ve seen firsthand the genuine care, devotion and sacrifices healthcare workers make to care for others,” Foley added. “I have immense respect for them and their families, especially as they navigate financial burdens, student loans and social pressures to spend beyond their means. I’m grateful to offer a service that helps them focus on what truly matters in life—things far more important than money.”
By setting a new standard for recognition based on remarkable achievements and innovation, the ThinkAdvisor 2024 Luminaries Awards program inspires the industry to reach greater heights of leadership, creativity, and community engagement.
“The 2024 Luminaries Awards continue to push the boundaries of what excellence means in the financial services industry,” said Janet Levaux, editor-in-chief of ThinkAdvisor. “This year’s finalists have not only demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation but have also shown a deep commitment to making a positive impact on their communities and the industry at large. Their contributions are a testament to the dynamic and evolving nature of our business, and we are proud to highlight their achievements as examples for others to follow.”
Finalists for the ThinkAdvisor Luminaries Awards are selected through a rigorous process emphasizing leadership, innovation and community impact. The selection is carried out by a panel of independent judges made up of distinguished industry professionals, who evaluate both qualitative and quantitative achievements. The awards ceremony will take place on December 11, 2024, at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
“I hope to continue growing in order to serve even more healthcare professionals, and I’m especially thankful for North Star, our Medical Division and our team, which enables us to expand and scale our efforts,” Foley concluded.
