MINNEAPOLIS — June 1, 2020 — North Star Resource Group started orientation for full-time advisors in training and sales and marketing interns in nine office locations this week. North Star’s recruiting and professional development departments plans to complete training following each city’s quarantine and social distancing measures.
“To have all these people start their careers—even in the midst of a pandemic—is encouraging for the future growth of North Star,” said Mitch Zimmer, national director of recruiting and advisor development.
North Star hired 12 full-time advisors in training and 23 interns, including many recent graduates from colleges and universities throughout the U.S.
“North Star has always put a high emphasis on recruiting off the college campus,” said Ed Deutschlander, CEO. “And as 2020 graduates enter a difficult job market, we are excited to welcome so many of these young people into our firm. Our client-centric firm leads to our motto: ‘hire for character and train for competence!’”
Zimmer has also seen an increase in experienced financial professionals and career changers starting careers at North Star.

Orientation took place over three days, with new hires tuning in online and from North Star’s headquarters in Minneapolis to learn about North Star’s values and general business practices. Throughout their internship or training program, interns and associates will complete two hours of weekly training and regular meetings with their mentors.
“Very early on in our firm’s history, we adopted a different strategy for preparing hires for success in the industry,” said Founder and Executive Chairman Phillip Richards. “We recruit those new to the industry and team them up with an experienced associate. This mentorship relationship is probably the best theater of learning possible: on-the-job, eyeball-to-eyeball training.”
