Tim White named Chief Financial Officer of North Star Resource Group

MINNEAPOLIS—July 1, 2024—Tim White was today announced as North Star’s newest Chief Financial Officer. As part of the transition, former CFO David Vasos, CFP® will assume the role of Executive Advisor, offering counsel to White and other members of the North Star leadership team.

As CFO, White will be responsible for guiding and leading the development, implementation and maintenance of the firm’s overall financial strategy. He will also serve as a valuable resource to North Star’s nearly 200 financial advisors.**

“Over the past 12 years of being with North Star, I believe there isn’t a better team that can help advisors launch their careers and become as successful as they want to be,” commented. “I look forward to many years of working with the North Star team to continue developing resources advisors can use to impact clients and future clients’ lives.”

After spending nearly 12 years at Securian Financial as manager of advanced marketing support and later manager of field financials, White joined North Star as vice president of financial reporting in 2014, a role he held until his promotion to CFO. He has a B.S. in mathematics from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., as well as an MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.

White’s career with North Star has seen significant, positive results, with the most notable being recognized annually on the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Largest Wealth Management Firm list, a 2022 Fast 50 recipient and an INC 5000 recipient.

Additionally, White has received recognition for his leadership amid the COVID-19 crisis. Thanks to his adaptability, he successfully helped North Star weather the uncertain conditions the pandemic brought while helping the firm remain profitable.

Most recently, White guided advisors and the firm through the financial implications of North Star’s transition to Cetera Financial Group. He also successfully supported the accounting team as they implemented new tools and procedures from Cetera, which contributed to North Star retaining 98% of its financial advisor base through the transition.

White’s predecessor in this role, David Vasos, CFP®, has been with North Star for over 43 years. Upon welcoming White to the firm, Vasos served as his mentor and was instrumental in developing him as his eventual successor.

“Tim is a perfect fit for this new role and is positioned well to provide leadership to North Star for years to come,” commented . “I have every confidence in his capabilities, and I know that he enjoys trusted relationships with all those he interacts with.”

The firm looks forward to a new era of financial leadership under White and is grateful to Vasos’ continued guidance in his new role.
