About

Jon C. Ylinen is an independent financial advisor and wealth manager who leads a practice of financial planning specialists. He works primarily with medical professionals, supporting them from their final year of medical school through residency and fellowship, starting practice, and into retirement.

His passion for financial planning is rooted in the belief that financial services and asset management should reflect the client’s goals, and recommendations should be made through this lens.

His holistic approach focuses on establishing emergency reserves, managing debt, protecting assets strategically, mitigating risks, and building wealth through strategies that align with what matters most to the client.

In addition to working with clients, Jon is a co-author of Real Life Financial Planning for Physicians and financial columns such as “Financial Focus” for Review of Ophthalmology and “EM$ and Sense” for Emergency Medicine Magazine, along with several contributions to Medical Economics and Physician’s Money Digest.

Outside his financial planning practice, Jon and his wife, Alyssa, enjoy spending time with their three children, traveling, golfing, and training for triathlons.

Financial planning process

After the initial consultation to determine if you and Jon are a good match for your needs and goals, you’ll launch into the client onboarding process.

During the first year working together, you and Jon will have three to four meetings to lay the groundwork for your financial plan, and in subsequent years, you’ll meet annually or as needed on an on-call basis.

Clarify your financial picture

The discovery process is about establishing the foundation. The first step is simply a conversation to uncover your core values and goals.

Then, the team will provide a document checklist to start the process of organizing all your financial documents and accounts in one place.

Jon will compile everything into a simple snapshot of where you stand financially.

Align your goals and resources

From there, you and Jon will discuss how you wish to use your financial resources to support your current lifestyle while planning for your future.

This meeting is intended to give you freedom—whether it’s through permission to spend or by increasing your savings rate to improve your outlook for the future.

Create a personalized plan

Using your goals as a guide, Jon will prepare a written financial plan with his specific recommendations for you. This plan serves as a step-by-step guide for reaching your goals.

Together, you can fine-tune the plan until it’s perfect for you.

Stay on track with ongoing support

Your plan will evolve as your life does. Jon will work closely with you to make sure you remain on track while adjusting for said changes.

At a minimum, you and Jon will meet annually to discuss your progress toward achieving each step of the plan. However, he is also available on-call to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
