Darby Affeldt, DVM, RICP® is a financial advisor for clients in multiple states. Darby works with veterinarians in all career stages, with small to mid-sized practice/business owners and with individuals seeking retirement and estate planning guidance.
As a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine herself—as well as being married to another DVM who owns a large mixed animal practice—Darby understands the industry, its complexities and the needs of her clients.
As a lifelong entrepreneur, Darby is deeply passionate about helping others to succeed and draws upon her personal experiences and training to support clients to efficiently pursue their financial goals.
Her practice is both personal and practice plan drive. She focuses on collaborating with her clients to integrate debt management, saving, investing and building assets, college funding and insurances to build wealth and design long-term retirement and legacy strategies. Darby also works closely with practice owners to attract and retain team members, plan out employee benefits, design and implement retirement plans and plan for tax-efficient exit and transition. She has spend years seeking other veterinary-centric professionals from the industry to refer to her practice owners to start up, acquire and run existing practices efficiently and successfully so that they can stay focused on their own passions.
Darby is originally from Colorado and received both her Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees from Colorado State University. Following her move to Seattle, Darby built both a relief veterinary career and founded and operated a successful construction and development company, building over 100 new homes and one veterinary hospital. Darby’s inspiration to become an advisor stems from her own experiences, and she supports clients with a transparent, comprehensive, and educational approach.
Darby is Securities registered—Series 7, holds a State Law Securities registration—Series 63, she is an Investment Advisor Representative—Series 65, and holds Life/Health/Disability Insurance licenses, each in multiple states. In 2018, she earned the RICP® designation (Retirement Income Certified Professional) from the American College of Financial Services.
Darby’s articles have been featured in DVM360, Veterinarian’s Money Digest, Veterinary Team Brief, Pulse and the WSVMA journal and she has co-authored Real Life Financial Planning for Veterinarians. In 2017, Darby was the honored recipient of the WSVMA Allied Industry Partner Award for her contributions to the veterinary industry. She teaches at WSU and UGA CVMs and speaks routinely at symposiums.
Outside of work, Darby resides in both Seattle and Olympia, WA. She enjoys cycling, swimming, snow and water skiing, diving, traveling, studying and spending time with her family—husband Dr. Christian Affeldt and children Emme, 20, and Truman, 16.
