Finalists of the 2018 Community Impact Awards include North Star and CEO Ed Deutschlander

The winners of Minnesota Business magazine’s 2018 Community Impact Awards will be announced at a ceremony on February 22, 2018.

MINNEAPOLISMinnesota Business magazine announced the finalists for their 2018 Community Impact Awards, including North Star Resource Group for “Best in Class: 101-300 employees” and North Star CEO Ed Deutschlander for “Paragon of Leadership.”

The Community Impact Awards honor Minnesota-based businesses, social enterprise organizations, nonprofits, initiatives and individuals making a significant impact to benefit their surrounding communities. The “Best in Class” categories, separated by number of employees in an organization, recognize for-profit companies for “overall excellence in making a substantial and positive impact on Minnesota communities.” North Star was previously the winner of the Best in Class: Midsize Company category at the 2016 Community Impact Awards. The “Paragon of Leadership” award, one of only two categories recognizing specific individuals, recognizes a Minnesota-based for-profit business leader for “making a positive impact through service, character and leadership.”

North Star is honored to be represented in two categories for this year’s awards. In 2004, North Star established the Scott Richards North Star Foundation (SRNSF) in order to maximize charitable contributions as a firm and support causes close to the North Star team. North Star has consistently donated 10% of profits annually to the SRNSF which, to date, has contributed nearly $4 million to the communities in which North Star individuals live and work. As a founding board member of the SRNSF, North Star CEO Ed Deutschlander has long been one of the biggest and most active advocates of charitable efforts throughout the firm. Deutschlander is particularly involved with the SRNSF’s Bikes for Kids event, which he and his wife Toni founded in 2004, and with efforts to raise awareness and funds for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. To date, he has walked over 300 miles with the non-profit organization Stop Alzheimer’s Now, founded in 2013 by North Star Senior Vice President Shaun McDuffee.

Winners of the Community Impact Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Minneapolis on February 22, 2018, honoring all finalists as well.
