Eleazar Lopez, Jr. and family receive 2024 Hispanic Family of the Year recognition for professional and personal service to the community
MILWAUKEE — October 4, 2024 — Milwaukee-native Eleazar Lopez, Jr., CPFA®, financial advisor at North Star Resource Group, was today announced alongside his family as the 2024 Hispanic Family of the Year award winner from Milwaukee-based community organization UMOS.
UMOS is a nonprofit that advocates for the Latino community, migrant workers and underserved populations. Since the organization’s founding in 1965, they have expanded their programs and services to assist people of all ethnic, racial and linguistic backgrounds who dream of a better life for themselves and their families.
Lopez and his family received this award thanks to their commitment to professional and personal service to the Milwaukee community and beyond.
Lopez started his career as an advisor in 2009, and he joined North Star as one of two advisors who established the Milwaukee office. He is Spanish bilingual and focuses on first-generation wealth builders, helping them leverage financial opportunities to create lasting legacies for their families and communities. The Milwaukee branch is made up entirely of advisors of color, dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals from historically underserved communities.
In his role, Lopez inspires financial confidence in business owners and families by helping them conceptualize and achieve their goals. When necessary, he connects them with external professionals in the community and is committed to advancing financial literacy, regularly hosting financial wellness workshops and events.
In addition to his professional work, Lopez is actively involved with his community. In 2023, he and his fellow Milwaukee financial advisors helped create the inaugural Black and Brown Run Around, a 5K event focused on engaging members of Milwaukee’s black and brown communities while uplifting minority-owned businesses in the area.
The 2024 event saw 347 walkers and runners participate and 36 Latino-owned businesses and organizations join as sponsors, vendors and entertainment. In total, the event raised $8,874 to support Lead2Change, a career-readiness organization that engages young people in leadership opportunities and equips them with essential tools to be successful.
Lopez is also involved with several other local community-focused organizations. He is a member of the Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers board, the Nativity Jesuit Academy board and the Pius XI High School board. He is also the President of the Latino Alumni Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Saint John Paul II Parish parishioner.
Lopez and his family will be honored alongside the other award category winners at the UMOS Hispanic Awards Banquet on October 25, 2024, in Milwaukee.
