Chase Brakke named Notable Leader in Finance by Twin Cities Business

Chase Brakke, DIA, DIF, CEPA®, Vice President of Business Owner Solutions

MINNEAPOLIS — April 12, 2021 — Chase Brakke, DIA, DIF, CEPA®, Vice President of Disability Insurance and Property and Casualty Operations at North Star Resource Group was recognized by Twin Cities Business as a Notable Leader in Finance honoree today.

“I am humbled and honored to be recognized alongside these brilliant Minnesotans leading the charge for better financial literacy and security,” said Brakke. “I never expect to be recognized, but it sure feels good to know that the good work we’re doing here at North Star is being noticed. To be recognized for doing something that I love and am passionate about is truly an honor.”

The Notable Leaders in Finance list celebrates and recognizes finance industry professionals who have shown the ability to effect change, demonstrated a willingness to share expertise, and exhibited leadership in specific initiatives at their company that have created significant, positive, and measurable results.

Brakke has exemplified this level of leadership and impact as the founder of two of the largest divisions at North Star, a current and past member of several national disability insurance boards, and a board member and volunteer for Minnesota-based nonprofit, BestPrep.

“North Star’s success wouldn’t happen without Chase’s passion,” says Ed Deutschlander, CEO of North Star. “We have yet to find his capacity.”

In 2010, Brakke launched the disability insurance division, which made up 20.5% of all North Star’s revenue in 2020. In service to the greater disability insurance community, he has served as a member of the International DI Society in 2017 and again 2019 through 2021, as a former field advisory board member for MetLife and The Standard, and a current board of advisors member for OneProtection.

Brakke also oversees North Star’s property and casualty division, and in the last year, the division doubled its number of clients.

“With every achievement and new initiative, Chase focuses on service to others,” says Deutschlander. “Chase’s departments support North Star’s 160 financial advisors nationwide, allowing them to provide top-level financial care for their 140,000 collective clients.”

Likewise, Brakke leads and serves in the community. Since 2009, he has been a regular volunteer for BestPrep, a nonprofit dedicated to preparing students with career and financial literacy skills. Each year, Brakke volunteers over 100 hours with BestPrep as an eMentor, classroom speaker, and fundraiser organizer. In 2019, Brakke took over North Star’s Charitable Golf Tournament for BestPrep, raising $50,000 over the two years, and in 2021, he joined the organization’s board.

Brakke has also recruited others for volunteering. To date, 70 North Star employees (36% of all Minnesota-based employees) have served in an estimated 3,407 hours with BestPrep.

“The lifeblood of our organization is volunteers, and Chase is mobilizing and spearheading this volunteerism at North Star,” says Robert Kaitz, President and CEO of BestPrep. “Beyond the commitment of participation is an obvious desire and passion to help students strive for success.”

Brakke and the other honorees will be profiled in the April/May issue of Twin Cities Business. Find more about Brakke at www.northstarfinancial.com/chase-brakke.
