What Bison Teach us About Being Better Humans

Since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated with nature and loved the outdoors. From digging up worms in the backyard, to high adventures in Boy Scouts, it’s something that’s always been a part of my life and continues to be to this day.

I got the awesome chance to visit Yellowstone National Park in the fall of September 2020 with a few family members of mine. Being in a landscape with so much natural wonder and life was a truly humbling experience. It’s one of the reasons I try to find time for an extended retreat into the outdoors once a year.

Below is one picture of many from our trip. A bison, one of the many, that call Yellowstone home. It’s not uncommon to see them walking alongside the road like this guy!

I believe, especially in our modern society today, we can learn a lot from nature and the animals that inhabit the world alongside us.

Case and point: When faced with a heavy winter storm, bison walk straight into it. Why, you may ask?

Because they instinctively know that the quickest way through the storm, though challenging, is head on.

This is something that I have been thinking about deeply in my life and work as of late. What “storms” am I avoiding facing in my own life – and how can I better face those directly?

This is something that I try to help my clients with in their financial lives to cultivate more wellbeing.

Bison, being pack animals, also innately know the value of teams…they’re stronger as a group in the face of storm than by themselves. I truly believe this is the case when it comes to our financial lives, too. If you have questions or thoughts on your own situation, I’d love to hear from you.
