    Bikes for Kids

Bikes for Kids, A Non Profit Public benefit Foundation, aims to help boys and girls ages 6-10. Many of the children come from broken homes where one or both parents may be missing, out of a job, or unsure of where the next meal is coming from. Through this program bikes, locks, helmets, and baskets are given to children in need at a carnival type event planned especially for them and their families.

    Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is often first suspected when a lump is felt or when an abnormal area is found on a mammogram. Most of the time, these suspicious areas do not turn out to be cancer, but the only way to know for sure is through follow-up tests. Understanding what these tests are and how to interpret their results can help a woman take control of her situation and pick the course of action that is best for her. What is Ataxia?

The word, “ataxia”, comes from the Greek word, “a taxis” meaning “without order or in coordination.” The Medline plus Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary defines ataxia (a-tak-se-a) as, “An inability to coordinate muscular movements that is symptomatic of some nervous disorders.” The word ataxia is often used to describe a symptom of incoordination which can be associated with infections, injuries, other diseases, or degenerative changes in the central nervous system. Ataxia is also used to denote a group of specific degenerative diseases of the nervous system called the hereditary and sporadic ataxias which are the National Ataxia Foundation’s primary emphases. Myelofibrosis

Myelofibrosis is a chronic form of leukemia. It causes secondary scarring or “fibrosis” in the bone marrow. Typically people develop myelofibrosis around age 60. The disease can lead to progressive bone marrow dysfunction and anemia, and decreases in other key blood cells such as infection-fighting white blood cells and blood-clotting platelets. Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disease affecting approximately 30,000 children and adults in the United States. A defective gene causes the body to produce an abnormally thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections. These thick secretions also obstruct the pancreas, preventing digestive enzymes from reaching the intestines to help break down and absorb food. For more information about Cystic Fibrosis visit www.cff.org.
