Mark Bonnett Announced as President of GAMA International

Bonnett is the third president to serve GAMA from North Star Resource Group.

Bonnett-Mark-2016-Web.jpgPHOENIX, AZ—Mark Bonnett, Partner and Senior Vice President at North Star Resource Group, has been announced as president of GAMA International.

Bonnett is the second-youngest individual to serve as president of GAMA International, the premier association responsible for leadership and professional development within the financial services profession around the world. His term as president also marks the first time in GAMA’s history that three individuals from one firm have served as president, with Phil Richards serving from 2002 – 2003 and Ed Deutschlander serving from 2007 – 2008. As president, Bonnett will work towards preserving face-to-face distribution, confronting consumer distrust in financial services, helping to promote financial literacy, and promoting collaboration within the financial services industry to find a unified, cohesive voice.

GAMA International has been a part of Bonnett’s career since 2002, when he attended his first LAMP (Leadership and Management Program) conference, hosted by GAMA. He took on a leadership role within the organization in 2006, shared a main platform presentation to an audience of 3,000 at LAMP in 2010 and in 2012, he was honored with the GAMA International Brian Early Front Line Excellence Award for outstanding leadership. As Vice President of GAMA in 2016, Bonnett was responsible for overseeing the planning efforts for LAMP in Las Vegas, where thousands of field leaders and industry executives from around the world were in attendance.

In recognition of his new role as president of GAMA International, GAMA’s bimonthly publication, the GAMA International Journal, published an interview with Bonnett. An excerpt is included below:

“Like teachers, leaders are always learning and passing on their favorite lessons. In his work with advisors, Mark shares the benefits of focus and keeping things simple. As he likes to say, ‘It’s not about doing things right, it’s about doing the right things,’ and that means tackling the boulders and big rocks first, not the pebbles and the sand. If you can deal with the biggest challenges, he says, there will be room for the smaller ones.”

Bonnett has been affiliated with North Star Resource Group since 1998. In addition to serving his clients and providing strategic direction for the firm as a whole, he also oversees North Star’s Southwest Division, comprised of over 20 financial advisors and team members. While based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Bonnett spends a considerable amount of time on the road speaking to the financial services and medical professions, speaking for groups with up to 3,000 individuals. He also serves as adjunct faculty at Midwestern University in Phoenix, volunteers for Make-A-Wish® Arizona and offers insight to the Phoenix Economic Council.
