Phone: (612) 617-6103 Professional Accomplishments Ed Deutschlander is currently the CEO Elect at North Star Resource Group which is one of the nation’s largest and oldest independent financial advising firms. North Star has over $4 Billion of client assets entrusted to them and their origins trace back to 1908 in the Twin Cities community. In 2002 Ed became the youngest Managing Partner nationally for the Minnesota Life’s Securian Advisor Network which has over 50 advising firms throughout the country. Ed is the Past President of GAMA International (2008-2009). GAMA International serves the professional development needs of individuals and companies engaged in the ethical distribution of financial services and products. GAMA provides its members access to networking opportunities with industry leaders, quality professional development products, and prestigious recognition awards. Members are skilled field and home office distribution leaders who are responsible for more than 90,000 advisors/agents who serve 41 million clients. Ed was asked to serve on the Board of Directors in 2001 at the age of 29 and became the youngest board member in the 50 year history of GAMA International. Ed has also been published in numerous publications whose topics include recruiting, leadership selection, training and development of financial advisors. In addition Ed is frequently and heavily quoted throughout the financial services industry. His “Recruiter’s Creed” is often used and cited at industry meetings and events. Ed is recognized as one of the premier recruiters in the financial services industry. Ed created his own consulting firm in 1998 at the age of 27 and has been hired by some of the largest insurance companies in the world to help them better their recruitment and training programs. Some of Ed’s clients include Met Life, John Hancock, Farmers Insurance, Mass Mutual, New England Financial, Thrivant Financial, Minnesota Life, American National, and New York Life. Ed has been asked to present internationally and has literally educated tens of thousands of managers and advisors in the financial services industry giving over 100 professional presentations. Along with speaking in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou Ed has recently presented to thousands at the APLIC convention in Thailand. North Star's training program is featured in two New York Times Best Sellers, What the Dog Saw by Malcolm Gladwell and Use Your Head To Get Your Foot In The Door by Harvey Mackay. Ed was the first recipient of the North Star Resource Group’s Medal of Honor which recognizes servant leadership, selflessness, service and integrity. Ed was recognized as Minnesota Life Insurance Company’s Recruiter of the Year every year he was eligible and since that time under his guidance and tutelage he has trained the last two recipients of that prestigious award. Ed has been a keynote speaker at LIMRA (Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association) International’s Officer Round Table meeting which consists of the Senior Vice Presidents of the largest Life Insurance Companies in North America. Ed has won numerous management awards from GAMA International and in 2002 was the only person in the industry of the 5,000 members eligible to receive the Career Development Award Platinum level. Ed holds the CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and CLF (Chartered Leadership Fellow) designations and was at the time the youngest person to achieve the CLF designation awarded by the American College. Community Involvement In 2004 Ed was asked to serve as one of the founding board members of the North Star Foundation. The North Star Foundation donates annually to the following charities; Breast Cancer, Ataxia, Cystic Fibrosis, Alzheimer’s, Myleofibrosis. Ed and his wife, Toni, founded and championed the Twin Cities Bikes for Kids program in 2004. BIkes for Kids makes it possible for disadvantaged youth to receive a brand new bike complete with a helmet and lock at a surprise holiday party hosted annually at the Twin Cities Metrodome. In 2010, the program gave away over 370 new bikes to kids participating in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters greater Twin Cities program and in the past seven years, over 2,400 children have received this holiday gift and surprise. Personal Ed is a 1993 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota where he played two varsity sports and served as Captain of his college football team. He was also the only senior to be a starter at two Varsity sports his senior year.
